The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Right of Way (ROW) and Utilities Division is seeking an individual that will evaluate, coordinate and arrange for the relocation and adjustment of utilities in conjunction with highway construction or maintenance projects. This position will ensure that such adjustments are properly performed in accordance with State and Federal requirements and are in accordance with project schedules. The successful candidate will have the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide utility companies and municipalities with plans, plan revisions and other pertinent information that will culminate in the expedient relocation of the utilities facilities. This position will also coordinate with other sections such as bridge, location and design, and in plan (water, sewer) to ensure relocation meets the project requirements.
This position requires knowledge of highway plans, specifications and standards, construction procedures, sequencing laws, policies and procedures, and environmental regulations. Knowledge of the various utility facility methods, requirements and construction techniques is also required. The successful candidate will have skill in fiscal and survey requirements used in utility relocations. A proficiency in the use of computers and web-based applications to include computer drafting is required. The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers. The ability to make independent decisions, solve problems, organize and prioritize is also required.
A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering or any related field is preferred. Equivalent experience or training may substitute for a degree.
