General Purpose: The Chemistry teacher is responsible for providing students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to develop academic excellence, virtue and leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Demostrates subject mater knowledge
- Structure of matter; atomic theory and structure, chemical bonding
- States of matter; gases, liquids, solids
- Reactions; types, stoichiometry, equilibrium and solubility, Kinetics
- Descriptive chemistry; chemical reactivity and products of chemical reactions, relationships in the periodic table
- Organic chemistry (minimal)
- Thermodynamics
- Chemical bonds
- Mole Concept
- Acids and bases
- Electrochemistry
- Solutions
- Nuclear chemistry (minimal)
- Related aspects of biology, physics, earth science, and mathematics, such as algebra and geometry
- History and philosophy of science
- Methods of research in the sciences, including laboratory techniques and the use of computers
Plans curriculum and instruction
Delivers effective instruction
Manages classroom climate and operation
Promotes achievement
Meets professional responsibilities
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Chemistry, with at least 36 semester hours in science courses
Colorado teaching license is not required
Experience:
Prior teaching experience preferred, but is not required
Salary Range:
$35,000 per year, based on ESSA qualifications; eligible for merit pay up to $2,000.
