Job Responsibilities
This posting will be used to fill two (2) vacant positions (SCEIS 61010031 and SCEIS 61010065)
Perform duties as a chemist in the Organic Chemistry Section analyzing various organic contaminants to include, but not limited to, volatile organic contaminants, in environmental compliance monitoring samples. This position will utilize High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS), and Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) instrumentation as per the approved USEPA methodology. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the extraction and analysis of samples, and the interpretation of generated data while adhering to approved DHEC Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operation and maintenance of analytical instrumentation, and performing quality control functions associated with sample analysis. Assist other staff members with glassware preparation, general laboratory cleaning, sample analysis, instrument troubleshooting, and other related duties as dictated by workload and as assigned by the supervisor. Communicate effectively with peers, other scientists, and service engineers on a daily basis.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in chemistry and experience in a laboratory setting related to the area of employment, including experience in operating and interpreting test results from complex analytical instrumentation such as gas, ion or liquid chromatographs or atomic absorption spectrophotometers; or a bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences with academic credits in chemistry and experience in a laboratory setting related to the area of employment, including experience in operating and interpreting test results from complex analytical instrumentation such as gas, ion or liquid chromatographs or atomic absorption spectrophotometers. A doctorate in chemistry may be substituted for the required work experience. A transcript (unofficial or official) for relevant degree(s) MUST be included with application.
