Fire Safety Officer
Facilities Management and Planning
The Fire Safety Officer is responsible for all issues related to fire detection & protection systems on campus. This includes responsibility for all maintenance and inspections of fire/smoke alarm detection, notification, fire sprinkler systems, chemical suppression, and fire extinguishers. This position works with Facilities Management to coordinate all projects that may impact the fire alarm or sprinkler systems; coordination of submittal plans to the State Fire Marshall and assists on SFM visits. Assures that monthly fire extinguisher checks are completed. Responsible for completion of fire code inspections of work performed by fire alarm and sprinkler contractors. Works closely with Facilities Management and contractors to develop plans and write specifications for fire alarm and fire protection systems using applicable NFPA and IBC codes as standards and assuring plans are submitted to the State Fire Marshall in a timely basis. Conducts routine building fire and life safety inspections of campus facilities to ensure compliance with applicable codes and works with campus maintenance and engineering staffs to identify and remedy code violations. This position will diagnose and repair Fire Detection/Alarm systems as required.
· Five years of experience in fire protection, building codes, or related field.
· Detailed knowledge of fire protection systems, life safety, and building codes.
· Applicant will possess an NICET Level I, II, or III building inspector certification or will attain same within 12 months from the start date
· Valid Driver’s License Required
· Preferred Education: Four year college degree in fire protection technology, engineering, or related field.
