Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI) is seeking a Sr. Research Technologist in Histology. Under general direction, the Sr. Research Technologist will work with animal tissues, including tissue grossing/trimming, embedding, sectioning, automated and manual staining and other duties associated with production of high-quality microscope slides (including finding challenging targets in certain tissues/organs). Additional duties include laboratory equipment maintenance, preparing solutions, assisting in digital slide scanning. Work may also include administrative and/or lab management tasks and cross training with other institute pathology laboratories.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific area or comparable course work; or equivalent combination of directly related education four (4) years’ experience in Histology preferred. Must be ASCP HT/HTL certified or eligible.
Candidate must have the ability to follow written standard operating procedures and the ability to document work in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). Must also be able to work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, formalin, and other tissue fixatives.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
