Lovelace Biomedical Research Institute (LBRI)
Under general direction, the Research Technologist will perform a variety of complex tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Research Technologist will be responsible for coordinating studies and conducting tests and experiments requiring nonstandard procedures and complex instrumentation. Responsibilities include assisting in the timely progression of genotyping human DNA samples, and in helping maintain mouse colonies for biochemical studies. This position will also have responsibility for processing lung tissues from animals and humans including histochemical staining and Western blot analyses. The individual will assist in developing new procedures and assays.
The individual will be expected to document laboratory work to acceptable standards and to assist with purchasing of consumables and to maintain laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations.
Bachelor’s degree in a scientific area or with comparable course; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of research methodology, principles and procedures. Must have the ability to successfully perform a variety of laboratory procedures using standard laboratory equipment and instruments. Must have the ability to gather, analyze and report data as well as the ability to design, organize, and/or coordinate scientific research projects.
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Preferred computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
