Overview

Under the general supervision of the Director of Comparative Medicine, the Associate Research Scientist conducts translational research studies related to infectious disease, respiratory physiology/toxicology, and rare disease/gene therapy. Research programs are broad in scope, and may include animal model development and characterization studies as well as pre-IND pharmacology, efficacy and/or toxicology studies. The Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for planning and supervising the technical conduct of studies, for compiling, analyzing and synthesizing the study data, and for drafting the final study report.

Qualifications

Requires a PhD in Toxicology, Biology, Virology, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, Immunology, or a directly related field and a minimum of 2 years of directly related research experience. Must have demonstrated ability to handle fundamental scientific tasks. Published and/or presented original research. Requires research experience in specific area of toxicology or virology.

Requires professional-level computer skills and advanced experience with Excel, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.

Must have superior professional-level written and verbal communication skills; a high degree of professionalism and excellent problem-solving skills. Demonstrated ability in managing a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines is required. Must have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team as well as the ability to maintain confidential information.

This position will involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which will require vaccinations/immunizations. Ability to obtain and maintain Select Agent clearance is required. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience.
