Associate Editor

Island Syndicate, a creative agency that offers publishing, photography, video production and related content creative services to our clients, has an immediate opening for an Associate Editor with project management skills and a range of proficiencies.

Salary: $30,000 – $35,00 (commensurate with experience)

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assistance with planning and managing daily operations
  • Researching and creating written content for print and digital
  • Engaging and supervising content creators
  • Collaborating with publisher and editors to determine content and topics for various print and digital platforms
  • Managing and developing content for social media distribution

Job brief:

We are looking for an Associate Editor to assist with oversight of our company’s daily publishing operations. You will report to the publisher and co-publisher, and your job will include managing submissions from writers and editors, and creating and managing content in some instances. We publish a proprietary magazine – Island Origins – as well as create publications and branding content for corporate, organizational, municipal and nonprofit clients.

The position combines the innovativeness of a writer with the practical focus of an project manager. You should be able to suggest ideas for stories and see them through to publication. We expect excellent organizational and leadership skills as well as keen problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and management for various print and digital platforms and jobs
  • Plan, research and prepare writing briefs and manage and schedule workflows between writers and editors
  • Engage, guide and supervise content creators
  • Collaborate with publisher and editors to determine issue content and topics
  • Help coordinate editorial publications and meetings
  • Manage schedules and enforce deadlines (for writers, photographers, designers etc.)
  • Assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style and tone
  • Track and manage ad insertions
  • Write content
  • SEO for websites
  • Resolve issues as they arise
  • Assist with / manage other creative activities for Island Syndicate clients

Requirements:

  • Strong written lifestyle work samples with proficiency in English
  • Working knowledge of online platforms like WordPress and SEO concepts
  • Abilities in planning and coordinating people and operations
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication and people abilities
  • Reliability and efficiency
  • Attention to detail
  • BSc/BA in communication or relevant field
