CFR’s David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the country’s largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Center for Preventive Action (CPA) seeks to help prevent, defuse, or resolve deadly conflicts around the world and to expand the body of knowledge on conflict prevention. It does so by creating a forum in which representatives of governments, international organizations, nongovernmental organizations, corporations, and civil society can gather to develop operational and timely strategies for promoting peace in specific conflict situations. The center focuses on conflicts in countries or regions that affect U.S. interests, but may be otherwise overlooked; where prevention appears possible; and when the resources of the Council on Foreign Relations can make a difference
The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
• Managing CPA’s day-to-day operations, including publications, meetings, and events
• Developing and monitoring CPA’s budget
• Overseeing CPA’s marketing activities including social media outreach
• Assisting in overseeing and coordinating CPA’s activities and published products, including working closely with outside authors on research papers intended for policymakers, and editing and proofreading written material
• Conducting research and editing for Center for Preventive Action (CPA) publications, as well as articles and book chapters authored by the director
• Managing events logistics, including preparing invitations, corresponding with speakers, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution
• Managing the Center’s social media presence and other digital tools, including the online Global Conflict Tracker interactive. Planning and drafting posts, tracking metrics to assess performance, and developing marketing strategies to increase the Center’s online reach
• Working with other CFR departments to identify funding opportunities, and drafting grant proposals and reports
• Working closely with CPA’s director, fellow, research associates, and interns on the management of projects such as the annual Preventive Priorities Survey
• Conducting miscellaneous administrative tasks such as making travel arrangements
• Bachelor’s degree in international relations or related field, with high academic achievement
• Master’s degree preferred
• 3+ years related experience in a research, government, consulting, journalism or other relevant role
• Previous related experience that required strong writing and editing ability, knowledge relevant to conflict prevention, and the ability to work with accomplished researchers and authors
• Experience with budget management
• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
• Experience with website development preferred
