The City of Naperville’s Department of Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) seeks a talented, self-motivated Engineering Technician to perform vital support functions related to City development, new construction, and municipal maintenance improvement programs.
The Engineering Technician inputs and manages data on computer systems, assists with the development, editing & implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and coordinates their work with other personnel in a team-oriented environment. Duties include reviewing grading plans for single family residential development; plat review for subdivisions, annexations, and easement acquisition; and performing field studies related to Traffic Engineering.
You will become a vital member of the department’s technical team, supporting the Engineering, Development, Transportation, and Planning groups. The Engineering Technician is responsible for implementing processes to gather, track and update related data. The position also seeks ways to leverage existing software applications to benefit the department’s work processes.
Minimum position requirements include:
- two years of related college coursework (or post-high school vocational education)
- at least one year work experience in a related field, and
- a valid State of Illinois Driver’s License.
A work record of consistent reliability, accuracy and attention-to-detail is a must. Confirmation will be sought via professional reference checks.
Candidates receiving the most consideration will: be proficient with one or more of the following: ESRI software, CityWorks software, Autodesk, or SharePoint; be skilled in the use of surveying equipment; possess advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications; and have proven abilities to communicate effectively (orally and in writing), to work independently, and to maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers.
