Position Summary

Responsible for directing the administration and operations of the City’s Cultural facilities. Also responsible for developing relationships with residents, performing arts organizations and presenters.

The salary will be commensurate depending on qualifications and experience.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Create and implement strategic business plans in a results oriented fashion.
  2. Implement adopted Cultural Arts Master Plan recommendations.
  3. Establish short- and long-range goals and objectives; oversee the preparation and administration of department budgets, and monitors related expenditures and revenues to provide effective, efficient and economical fiscal management of department facilities and programs.
  4. Effectively communicate with the general public, other City departments, board members, vendors, contractors, elected officials, commission, arts community and Garland ISD.
  5. Engage residents to foster economic growth and competitiveness and promote neighborhood vitality through the arts and cultural activities.
  6. Participate in developing and implementing public arts.
  7. Seeks and obtains sponsorships.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

– Bachelors Degree in Theater, Marketing, Business Administration or related field of study

-7 years related experience

-2 years management experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Knowledge – Abilities & Skills

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Theater, Marketing, Business Administration or related field of study
  • 7-10 years experience in performing arts, theater management, marketing and/or business management
  • 2-4 years of management experience in performing arts, theater or public facilities management or a related field

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of public cultural programs and activities
  • Extensive knowledge of principles and practices in marketing and promoting community programs and events
  • Extensive knowledge of theatre & Banquet Hall program budgeting principles
  • Skill in software programs including Microsoft Office (including Access, Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Ability to respond to citizen input/complaints with considerable tact and courtesy
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, support staff, contracted personnel, volunteers, participants, and other departments with which the position interacts
  • Knowledge of: principles and practices of arts facility management, public administration, personnel management, budget preparation, administration and monitoring; modern management techniques, supervisory practices, and evaluation methods; the arts, entertainment and cultural events market; event production, technical operations, box office operations, event management, event promotions and marketing, retail operations and maintenance and capital project management
  • Ability to develop innovative strategies to maximize revenue; deal effectively with boards and commissions; clearly articulate a vision, exhibit a commitment to quality and demonstrate the ability to navigate an enterprise of many and diverse stakeholders; demonstrate a commitment to integrating arts, entertainment and programming into the broader community agenda
  • Knowledge of: methods and techniques for special event programming such as classical music, jazz, theater, ballet and other popular entertainment opportunities. Principles and best practices of public relations, promotions and marketing of programs, events and facilities

Licenses & Certifications

– Valid Class C Texas driver’s license

Physical Tasks & Working Conditions

The incumbent works in a typical office environment as well as in an event center environment; infrequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Occasional outside work and other physical labor such as standing, walking, bending/stooping and kneeling.
