Our office is currently seeking a Graduate Fire Engineer to join our Fire team. In this position, you will work as part in a highly collaborative environment on a wide variety of projects, from small engineering problems to large multi-disciplinary projects with worldwide recognition. Be a part of a team that combines local insight with global best practice to deliver excellence in fire safety on projects. You will have the chance to have an immediate impact on providing solutions to meet the challenges of the many sectors we work in, including the rigorous standards of airports and railways to the distinct ambition of museums and cultural institutions.
Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Immediately applying the skills and knowledge learned in college coursework to important real-world applications
- Assisting staff on a variety of projects, which may include fire/evacuation modeling, risk assessments, and code consulting
- Coordinating with multiple disciplines and working in conjunction with project managers to help complete assigned tasks
- Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
- Presenting technical material for review by technical and non-technical audiences
- Understanding trends and best practices in the fire protection community, and applying this knowledge to projects and problems
- Participating in local professional associations
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor Degree in Fire Protection or enrolled in master’s program
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Candidate must not require sponsorship, now or in the future to be considered for this role
- Coursework in fire dynamics, building codes, and fire protection and/or alarm systems
- Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in Fire Engineering Fundamentals
- EIT/FE desired
- Strong interpersonal communication skills essential for team-based working
- The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and exceptional organization skills required for our constantly evolving environment
- Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels
- Must not require sponsorship, now or in the future to be considered for this role
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Fire Protection
- Coursework in Fire Dynamics, Evaluation, Building Codes, and Fire Protection Systems
- Internship experience with a design firm
- Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation software (Fire Dynamics Simulator, Fluent, or others) or evacuation software
- Programming skills (C++, Python, Javascript, etc…)
- Proven ability to perform in a deadline environment
- Past history of technical presentations and technical writing
- Evidence of personal investment in academic or extracurricular field
