COVERING CHAOS : Skills for Effective Reporting from the Front Lines
Across the United States protests, marches, and rallies have been the center of recent major news stories. Reporters covering these events may find themselves in the midst of a demonstration that turns unruly. How do reporters report the story yet still stay safe? How do newsrooms allocate resources to cover these events? Many of these recent events focused on racial injustice. Are newsrooms preparing their news teams and reporting structure to ensure balanced and insightful coverage?
In our first webinar of the series our panel of reporters, who have covered multiple stories from the front lines as they unfolded, will describe their experience and share advice. We’ll also discuss if calls for more racial diversity in newsrooms are making an impact in this reporting.

THINK LOCAL : Jumpstart Your Career at Local News Outlets and Trade Publications
Many reporters got their start at local newspapers or trade publications. Some journalists parlay these first jobs into positions at national news desk or with a major network. Others have found growing a life-long career at one of these publications to be rewarding and successful as well as equally valuable to their audience as any national news source. In our third webinar a panel of journalism professionals will share their experiences and offer advice on how these options may be the right fit for your first job in journalism.
