The International Climate Policy team works to increase U.S. climate ambition abroad and strengthen the nation’s relationships with foreign allies through participation in multilateral institutions and forums.
In this role, the intern will learn how to conduct research, support the team’s policy experts, participate in coalitions, and author memos. The intern will also learn about how public policy is created and implemented.
This position calls for a highly organized individual who is excited to learn about the U.S. approach to international climate policy and the role of climate in international diplomacy. This individual will be driven by American Progress’ mission to improve the lives of all Americans through bold, progressive ideas, as well as strong leadership and concerted action, with the aim of not only changing the conversation, but changing the country. This intern will be part of a dynamic department that supports work across American Progress’ five crosscutting priorities:
- Building an economy for all
- Restoring social trust in democracy
- Advancing racial equity and justice
- Tackling climate change and environmental injustice
- Strengthening health
Responsibilities:
- Support the International Climate Policy team by learning and communicating with teammates about aspects of international climate policy, including international climate finance, trade, adaptation and resilience, loss and damage, and security.
- Conduct research on a range of topics using reputable sources and synthesizing information through written products such as memos, press releases, and columns.
- Participate in coalition meetings with partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:
- Current pursuance of an associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degree, or a recent graduate.

- Professional work ethic and an understanding of acceptable behavior in a professional setting and with high-level stakeholders.
- Commitment to treating all partners—internal and external—with courtesy and respect for those of different cultural backgrounds.
- Commitment to American Progress’ mission and values.
