Job Description
IAT Insurance Group has openings for summer 2024 Underwriting Product Compliance Interns who can be located in one of the following IAT offices:
- Raleigh, North Carolina
- Cheshire, Connecticut
- Naperville, Illinois
This internship will provide you the ability to learn the basics of underwriting product compliance while helping to facilitate and improve existing work. This role will not only provide you with exposure to subject matter experts, but also provide you with in-depth knowledge of how a high functioning underwriting product compliance department works. The anticipated start date for this internship is May 28th, 2024. Please note, IAT works on a hybrid schedule, working from the office Monday through Wednesday with the option of working remotely Thursday and Friday.
Responsibilities:
Work with our Underwriting Audit group to improve our audit results tool. Tasks include verifying the audit questions used by each business. Looking at our reporting module and preparing new views within the tool to improve reporting and spot trends
- Assist in populating our new ELM (Enterprise Library of Manuals) including the insertion of meta data to allow for search capabilities and improved reporting. Tasks will include interviewing business leaders to understand how they may use the tool and assuring that their needs are met by the tool.
- Work with our underwriting compliance team (Filings) to complete a time study to better understand the time it takes to complete different types of filings (ISO “Auto Adopt”, ISO Change, and Proprietary. Assist management in understanding workload & staffing needs within the unit
- Working with Product Managers, review underwriting guidelines against our rate, quote, & issue system (UNITY) to spot discrepancies and help in adjusting the guides, or creating new guides to improve clarity.
- Potentially assist on a corporate underwriting audit – review all forms to assure that the correct forms are on the policy and that underwriting matches to the guides. This is a high level assignment for the right candidate who excels over the internship.

Qualifications:
Must Have:
- Rising undergraduate junior or senior
- Ability to work out of one of the following IAT offices: Raleigh, North Carolina or Cheshire, Connecticut or Naperville, Illinois
- Analytical thinking skills
- Basic spreadsheet skills and knowledge of Microsoft Suite of Products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.)
- Strong Communication skills both with Technical and non-technical resources
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently
- Above average computer skills
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by employer, now or in the future.
Preferred to Have:
- Risk Management & Insurance, Finance, Mathematics, or Business major
