1 CITYCLUB

Alfonso Maraver, M.B.A.’18, and Matt Wigler, B.M.’15, M.B.A.’18, want to encourage Miami residents to take advantage of the city’s highly-rated dining scene.

This is the basis behind their new venture, 1 CITYCLUB, a membership-based service that provides discounted prices to fine dining restaurants through an app. Members also have access to exclusive weekly happy hours.

Maraver is a lawyer who left Venezuela at the age of four. Wigler, a native of Baltimore, originally moved to Miami to pursue a B.M. in Jazz Piano Performance at UM’s Frost School of Music. The two met while attending the Miami Business School (MBS) and developed a closer bond as roommates during a trip to India.

Soon after graduation, Wigler contacted Maraver about a business opportunity. A jazz pianist and singer who has toured nationally, he noticed that the beautiful restaurants and bars in the high-end hotels where he performed were often empty. He hoped to find a way to bring in more local customers.

Drawing on the knowledge they acquired at MBS, as well as their diverse backgrounds and experiences, Maraver and Wigler worked on creating 1 CITYCLUB and launched it a few months later. They now hope to cater to companies looking at cost-saving options for entertaining clients, as well as individuals looking to pamper themselves with access to these top-rated bars and restaurants.

The service is currently only available in Brickell, but Maraver and Wigler are confident they will soon expand to other parts of Miami. UM alumni can use the promo code CANES to receive a 50% discount on their first membership billing cycle.
